Verify the surgeon's specialty

In Mexico, a surgeon's certification in plastic surgery or in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery can be verified directly in the corresponding council's public directory, by searching the specialist's full name and confirming the certification shows as current.

Scope and limits of this page

What this covers

  • Explains which certifying councils to search and how to read the result of that search.
  • Links directly to the three public directories that exist for this verification in Mexico.
  • Explains the difference between being registered with a medical college (colegiado) and holding a current specialty certification.

What this page does NOT do

  • Does not confirm the certification of any specific surgeon; it only explains how to check it directly at the official source.
  • Does not replace a direct search in the corresponding directory, which can be updated at any time.
  • Does not evaluate the quality of any surgical outcome or determine candidacy.

Where to search for certification

The Consejo Mexicano de Cirugía Plástica, Estética y Reconstructiva (CMCPER) and the Consejo Nacional Mexicano de Cirugía Plástica, Estética y Reconstructiva (CONACEM) certify the plastic-surgery specialty in Mexico; both publish a directory or search tool where you can confirm whether a specific name holds current certification.

The Consejo Mexicano de Otorrinolaringología y Cirugía de Cabeza y Cuello (CMORLCCC) independently certifies the otolaryngology specialty; its own directory allows the same verification for that specialty.

What a current certification confirms

A current certification confirms that the specialist completed training in that specialty and passed the corresponding council's certification process, and that the certification has not expired or been revoked according to the public record. It does not confirm the outcomes of past surgeries or specific experience in rhinoplasty, which are separate evaluations.

Being colegiado (registered with a medical college) is a different registration from holding a current specialty certification with the corresponding council; it is worth not confusing the two terms when reviewing a surgeon's credentials.

Difference between specialties

The certified specialty (plastic surgery or otolaryngology) determines which council to search for certification, and both can perform rhinoplasty depending on their training and the specific case.

What else is worth verifying

Verifying the surgeon's certification is one step; verifying the surgical facility where the surgery will take place is another, independent step, with its own official records.

Where to see verified profiles

This site's surgeon directory shows, for each published surgeon, a direct link to the corresponding council's directory together with the date that certification was checked.
